“When we think we have certainty, when we aspire to the knowledge of the gods, then Auschwitz can happen and can repeat itself. Arguably, it has repeated itself in the genocidal certainties of past decades” writes Simon Critchley for the New York Times. Critchley is referring to a 1973 BBC documentary series called “The Ascent of Man,” hosted by Dr. Jacob Bronowski. The last episode, four minutes of which are featured here, has Dr. Bronowski explaining the danger of absolute knowledge that modern science claims, and coming to terms with the people he lost in the Holocaust.
